What To Do In Mumbai In One Day?

Mumbai is the city of local trains, busy streets, renowned artists, delicious Vada Pav, cherished pilgrimage sites and stunning seashores. This city that never sleeps is known for fashion, glamour and its exciting nightlife, and exploring all of this is not a piece of cake. If you’re one of those who are travelling to Mumbai for a day and want to get a glimpse of its treasures, then here are a few locations in the city that should be on your list-

1)  Gateway of India
Gateway of India is surely one of the prime tourist spots to start your Mumbai darshan with. This monument, popularly known as the ‘Taj Mahal of Mumbai’, was built in 1924. Designed by George Wittet, it follows the Indo-Saracenic architecture. Bordered by the Arabian Sea, it is obscured by the Taj Hotel. One of the cultural heritages of India, Gateway of India, is a must-visit if you’re in Mumbai. 

2)  Marine Drive
Situated 5 km away from Gateway of India, Marine Drive can be next on your list. Known as one of the most romantic spots in Mumbai, it is known as the Queen’s necklace for its C-shape formed by the yellow lights. The calm Arabian Sea and breeze striking the perfectly lined palm trees is truly a beauty in itself. A cup of tea with vada pav while sitting on the rocky coast is every Mumbaikar’s way of enjoying an evening here. 

3)  Taraporewala Aquarium
Taraporewala Aquarium is an exciting spot for all the marine life enthusiasts. Situated at a walking distance, this can be your next destination when you’ve explored the wonders of Marine Drive. This aquarium consists of more than 100 kinds of species from the Lakshadweep Island, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean. The entry fee for this aquarium ranges from Rs 30-60. 

4)  Prince of Wales Museum
The next stop during your Mumbai darshan can be the Prince of Wales Museum located at a distance of 3.4 km from Taraporewala Aquarium. This museum is also known as ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya’. Established during early 20th century, it is considered as one of the most prized heritage structures in Mumbai. The ancient artworks, artifacts and sculpture are all preserved here. The admirable architecture of this museum makes it a must visit tourist spot in Mumbai. 

5)  Nehru Science Center
Take an informative tour to the Nehru Science Center, which is just 7 km away from Taraporewala Aquarium. The sky observation program, 3D films, Odyssey shows and many other interesting science exhibits are a fun yet informative treat for the kids as well as adults. The center has visiting timings, which is from 10 am to 6 pm.

6)  Haji Ali Dargah
Located at a distance of 4 km from Nehru Science Center, Haji Ali Dargah is a renowned pilgrimage site of Mumbai. Situated in the middle of the Arabian Sea, there is a pathway leading to the Dargah from the shore, which is referred to as the ‘Sea to Humanity’. The mosque is built in Indo-Islamic architecture and was named after a great Muslim saint, Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. 

7)  Sanjay Gandhi National Park
Situated in the suburbs of Mumbai and Thane, it is a popular picnic spot of Mumbai. Covering approximately 20% of Mumbai’s geographical area, Sanjay Gandhi National Park is home to more than 1300 species of flora and fauna with 2 artificial lakes. Witnessing 2 million visitors every year, this is the most visited National park. This tourist spot is located 33 km from Haji Ali Dargah.  

8)  Juhu Beach
While you are in Mumbai, don’t forget to witness the gorgeous sunset from Juhu Beach. The peaceful atmosphere and the panoramic beauty makes it a must visit destination in Mumbai. Many Bollywood movies have been shot at Juhu Beach because of its natural beauty.
